Australia (add-on)

This screenshot shows Australia's many facets at a glance. The fifth continent has everything, from extreme deserts to the most fertile soil.

back

Main line meets branch line

There are of course numerous different ways for a branch line to lead to a main line. This screenshot shows just one of many possible variations. Each gamer will have their own preferences for the construction of such structures.

back

Change of leadership

This screenshot shows an image taken from the mission "Change of Leadership" of the Europe campaign. It's about the son taking over his parental haulage company. While his father enjoys his retirement on a southsea island, he must rehabilitate the company and put it back on its feet.

back

Interstate buses

Buses play an important part in long-distance passenger transport. They are an effective means of transport where investment costs for the railroad or even airlines seem a bit extravagant.

back

Heliport

In comparison to an airport, a heliport has the great advantage that it takes up very little space. It can be built and expanded even if there is only very limited space available.

back

A capuccino, please

While a train is taking the coffee beans to the roasting house, a cargo plane is already waiting to take the freshly packed coffee to the consumers as quickly as possible.

back

Company colors at the station

Various engines present themselves in standardized company paintwork. So this is what a station could look like if the player chose this particular paint coat.

back

Company colors at the station

In this station you can see various locos in company colors selected by the player.

back

US of A

What do we associate with Northern America? Well, a lot of things, probably. Among them, certainly futuristic-looking trains and – definitely – gambling casinos! Both of which can be seen in this week's screenshot.
Okay, we'll admit that this must be some kind of nostalgic excursion from reality - it seems rather unlikely that this kind of train would be seen in front of such a modern casino under any other circumstances.

back

Fast train

This screenshot includes not just our vehicle, but also our building of the week. The train brings passengers from all over the country eager to see this crowd-pulling architecture.

back

Shipping

So far, you have been shown ships only as separate vehicles. Now you have the opportunity to admire them in action. Their capacity in particular is quite impressive – after all, just one ship can take the load of a whole train.

back

Overhead lines

If you want to use electric locomotives, your track will of course have to be electrified. To this purpose, you will need to build overhead lines. Electric locos have quite a few advantages, so while the initial costs may seem rather high, they might prove to be a worth-while investment in the long run.

back

Tunnels

Depending on the lay of the land, it may be necessary to build the occasional tunnel in TransportGiant. But make your decision carefully – the expenditure this structure necessitates is horrendous.

back

Horsepower

At the beginning of the game, railroads need not necessarily be your first choice. It's far easier to start the game with horse and carts. The money thus saved can then be used for building up railroads.

back

Switches

It's well nigh impossible for any self-respecting railroad line to get by without switches. So of course we'll have them in TransportGiant too!. This week's screenshot shows you for the first time what they look like.

back

Trees by the hundreds

Whole forests are being transported by train from the lumbering areas to the sawmills. While at the beginning of the game a few freight cars will do the trick, you will need real monster trains in the later stages of the game.
But in this screenshot never mind the train, look at that bend!

back

Bends

It didn't take us long to decide with which special view we wanted to start the new year. Take a first glimpse at the track bends in TransportGiant that had long been surrounded by mystery.

back

When the sap starts to rise

Come the end of winter, the trees start sprouting new shoots, and the fields are being tilled. Catch a first glimpse of the changing seasons. See the fresh green leaves on the deciduous trees, and the fruit trees in full blossom. Let's just hope there are no sudden late frosts, which would shatter any hopes of a rich harvest in the fall.

back

Activity at the station

Stations are the focal point of any railroad company. The bustling activity, the coming and going of various trains always have held something fascinating about them for railroad enthusiasts.

back

Aviation dreamland

You can say what you want about zeppelins. One thing goes without question, they were and are a really attractive means of transport that turns heads and wrenches necks.
No plane will ever be able to float so majestically over the countryside. Given this, one can easily overlook the odd disadvantage here and there.

back

Garbage mountains

Garbage is a good business – most people know that nowadays. Good money can also be earned transporting stinking garbage in Transport Giant.
Garbage dumps however do not have unlimited room. Over time the garbage delivered will change the landscape around the dump with unattractive garbage piles.

back

Who transports more?

Transporting crude oil is not a job for a single truck. High transport capacities are required in this case. Extremely long trains with a virtually endless chain of tank wagons ensure that the refineries do not run out of their necessary raw material in a hurry.

back

Electricity does not grow in a hole in the wall

Even though some people still seem to think so, even in our time. But it's not quite that easy. Which is of course useful for you as a haulage contractor. After all, these oil-fired power stations need a lot of oil. And who would deliver it, if it wasn't for you?

back

Vitamins are good for you

Most people know this and therefore like to include fresh fruit in their diet. Fresh apples can, however, also be very good for your account. So why not deliver fruit to town inhabitants to ensure a healthy growth of your wealth.

back

Cheesy?

Not at all! What we can see here is a cattle farm with contented milk cows. And only a stone's throw away, a dairy. The cunning entrepreneur will be on to this business opportunity like lightning, of course, and start taking milk to the dairy to benefit from the short distance. The dairy will use it to produce delicious cheese, which can then be taken to the towns.

back

Call of the Wild

In some regions, vast forests cover large areas of the Transport Giant game world. You will therefore occasionally have to cut tracks through the woods and let your engineers hazard long journeys through the Green Hell.

back

A rather spacious station

Usually you'll make do with considerably smaller stations in TransportGiant. But every now and then a station might just need more and more tracks. Or maybe you simply happen to be partial to big stations. Either way - no problem, as you can probably see from this screenshot.

back

In the coal-mining area

Heavy freight trains make sure that coal is taken to power plants in sufficient amounts. The multiple traction option offers great advantages for these heavy goods in particular. It won't make the trains faster, but it multiplies the tractive power.

back

Monorails

In Transport Giant, monorails are not expensive prestige objects but a rather effective means to handle high passenger numbers.
True, the cost of purchase is enormous, but the high passenger frequency will soon make up for this drawback.

back

Semitrailers

It's impossible to picture modern life without semitrailers. Here you see lots of these impressive vehicles, transporting gravel.

back

Bridges

How do roads cross rivers? Well, over a bridge, of course. But they are not only useful to build roads or tracks across inconvenient rivers, but also to bridge your rivals' tracks without having to use crossings.
However, it's well worth thinking over carefully whether to build bridges or not, as such an investment is anything but cheap.

back

Airport

From the 1930s onwards you'll be able to use airplanes in the game. And, as it's a bit difficult to land airplanes in meadows, you will of course need to build airports for them. The sheer dimensions of this construction alone require careful planning and a well-filled wallet.

back

Flying Cigars

In the early 1900s zeppelins were seen as the means of transport of the future whereas nowadays they are merely used as an advertising medium.
Prospective transport giants will also have the opportunity to explore the strengths and weaknesses of this unusual means of transport.

back

Signals

Signals are a decisive element in the game that can be used by advanced players. Here we can see a station that is equipped with wing signals.
The wing signals are of course replaced later by modern light signals.

back

Making new from old

Cities and villages are not static elements in the game. They change their size over the years and thus ensure that you have endless possibilities.
Many old building have already been replaced by new ones in this city. It won't be long before all that remains of the older buildings are just memories and old photos.

back

Animal husbandry

A large cattle farm and a pig farm are the dominant elements in this screenshot. It is evident that all animals are happy as they are kept free-range and have enough opportunity for exercise.
Would the pigs be so happy however if they knew that trucks are just waiting to transport them to the nearest slaughterhouse?

back

Air freight

The main player in this screenshot is the striking freight airplane. Everything else plays just a supporting role. All there is to add is just the airplane type, it's a Boeing 707.

back

The Fairytale Castle

In front of the impressive castle which draws throngs of tourists every month, we can see an equally impressive passenger locomotive built in the style of the well-known Trans-Europ-Express. The locomotive brings the tourists from the surrounding towns to this popular destination.
The station may only have a few tracks but is well equipped with a restaurant, hotel and snack bar. These facilities mean additional income.

back

The first station

Where there is no station, there is no train service. Here we take a first look at a small station, with one train being loaded up and another one leaving for its next destination. Both of them bring boards from the nearby saw mill to a remote furniture factory.
This detail shows the easy game mode, where there are no signals to observe.

back

The green gold of the south

A tranquil little village in southern Europe, surrounded by idyllic olive groves. Everything is still quiet, but harvest time is drawing nearer.
A haulage firm with fast vehicles could make a good deal by carrying the olives to the nearest oil mill. But speed is vital: only olives fresh from the harvest will yield a high-quality palatable oil.

back

Black gold

A small village in the Wild West. Not far from it, there's an oil well. It will probably not take long for a resourceful haulage contractor to hit upon the idea to become rich with oil transports. You can almost hear the hammer blows of the railway construction workers already.

back

First Screenshot

Unpertubed, reindeers watch the heavy goods traffic roll by. Inured to the continuous noise from the nearby coal mines, they keep their cool even when freight trains or tankers thunder past them. Even while the three locomotives are pulling their heavy freight into the next station, however, someone somewhere might be making plans to build a new station here. Soon, the reindeers' peace may further be disturbed by long coal trains.
